Where have all the hunters and trappers gone?

My FIL says that when his dad was trapping (before he was born) he bought a brand new car in 2 weeks from mink fur when everyone else was working all week long just to be able to feed their families. Trapping gave their family a very great start when everyone else was still in a 'depression'.

I wish fur brought as much money now as it did then...I would have my husband trapping full time instead of just on his down time. We have really nice pelts from animals. They are so useful! Just like the Good Lord intended

I never waste any part of an animal. We use as much of it as possible. Feathers, fur, meat, bones, urine (lure), every part that can be used, is used.

Nobody in my family (anywhere near me, anyway) is a hunter, but are all avid fishermen. We didn't have game growing up, but we ate a lot of fish, crab, etc...
I still have my Hunter Safety Course certificate and badge from 8th grade and always wished that I'd had some use for them, that I'd learned marksmanship and hunting skills as a child. Do they even teach Hunter Safety in schools anymore?!
Luckily, I married well.

My husband has hunted all his life, I naturally think he's exceptional lol..and I love going pheasant hunting with him. I used to accompany him on deer hunts as well, just for the joy of being out there and watching the whole process.
I'm thankful that our daughters have such a good teacher, that they'll have the knowledge and skill set he does and mostly that they have a genuine love for hunting. They take pride in helping to clean and eat what is brought home, especially--our youngest is very good at calling in the ducks--if they helped.

please remember the rules

Where are the references to PETA or Cock fighting? Maybe I am blind and missed it (sometimes I skim instead of read fully

hehe). Are you trying to remind a single person who made reference? Right now I am reading your post as you don't agree with trapping and fur trading, and are using that rule to justify your disagreement with hunting and stuff. If I am wrong please inform me and be clear about your intent. Otherwise, there is nothing in the rules about having a thread about hunting and trapping. I don't hunt but my uncle did....I really love deer meat

I love to fish, I wish I could hunt. I hope for my child(ren) to love the outdoors as much as I and my husband do. I wish we could do more. My husband is Native so we are part of the Native community. My son will at least grow up to respect nature and not to waste anything, especially the animals.

lol my dad hunts...

This is how I grew up....

And those are just in the basement, there is an upstairs and a main floor...

DH hunts too, I should get him into trapping. He's not an angler but I LOVE to fish for trout. I dont care much for the white fleshed fish that grow up here in MN so I reserve my fishing time for weekends with Dad and Grandpa in Colo and Wyo. Dh shoots anything that doesnt belong on our property and he wont get in trouble for. We have too many animals that could be injured if he didnt.

I do the same thing Sparkles, but for some reason I have seen the predator population either increase or become waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more desperate than they were in previous years. It's almost like someone put a neon sign up in my backyard that says "Old Country Buffet"...... sigh......

The coyotes have really hurt the deer and turkey population in my area.Small game hunting really doesn't exist like when I was a kid.The coyotes need better population management. Will

I am a trapper and hunter. My time is spread thin in the fall and winter. But that is the price I pay to spend in the outdoors. I ship my fur to the NAFA Auction House in Canada. If you ask your states trappers ascasioion. The might help you with where to sell your furs. And try to teach the younger ones what it is like to enjoy the outdoors.
