Now for what may be the dumbest question you've ever been asked... I have a Buff Orp chicken who is setting on eggs and has a "due date" of May 2. I have 5 midget white turkeys (our first turkeys) arriving at the feed store "at the end of April."
I'm just wondering if I should try to integrate the turkeys with the chicks at some point for upbringing with a bird parent rather than a human one, if Broody Mama is interested in adopting. Not that I mind brooding them inside (I was actually looking forward to it), I was just wondering if it would be better for the young turks to be with a bird-mom and have her teach them "the ropes" and introduce them to the flock. I would love it if all the birds would share the same coop at night, and it might be easier if the turkeys think they're chickens, at least until they learn to roost inside.
Or, is three or four days old too old to imprint on a chicken?
Or do you think the baby turkeys should be kept separate from our free-ranging chickens for three months, like I have read elsewhere.
Oh, and where do you stand on apple cider vinegar or grape seed extract in the drinking water?

I think it depends on the incubator, we do it all the time in a sportsman with no problems. One of ours has been hatching chicks at the rate of 2 trays a week since Feb and hasn't bothered the rest of the eggs at all.
