Where should I move???

Since I would rather be home than go out to work, the answer is simple for me....

Love where you live! Its certainly nice to love where you work, but I try to be content wherever I go.

I've tried all kinds of nursing and they all have their good points. That's the beauty of this profession, there are so many avenues to walk down.

I thought hospice work would be low stress and somewhat boring. It is boring in a way, compared to acute care. It is also very enriching..but emotionally stressful.

My advice? Grow where you are planted! But plant yourself in a beautiful garden......

I know it's not on your list but I live in central Virginia. Heat and humidity during July and August is awful but in the mountains or on the coast it's not bad at all. My wife and I took a road trip to Charlottesville and Roanoke a few weeks ago when it was hitting 100 at home and felt like 120, when we got to the mountains it almost felt like a fall day in comparison. I didn't want to go home!

Not right now! Ninety degrees and sunny today, not a cloud in the sky. Mind you, we did get a LOT of snow last winter, but the lovely summers and beautiful nature make up for it! I'd move to Maine if I were you. Harsh winters... beautiful summers... never too dry.

If you move into the Greater Portland area, then hi neighbor!

Unfortunately I have just about run out of options for Maine. It was high on my list, but I just heard that Togus isn't hiring. That was very disheartening.

It doesn't have to be black or white, I guess is my point. I want to encourage the OP to get the most she can from life. Yet, there are times we may not find the perfect job, in the perfect place, under all the perfect circumstances we've set forth. That's life, right?

So you hit the highlights and make the best of what you are able to find. Tying your happiness to external things, work, location, etc. is a recipe for dissatisfaction - no matter where you are or what you do.

Obviously there are some pretty awful jobs and some pretty bad places.... but that doesn't really apply to the OP. She has lots of options.

Just remember, happiness is within. It is a state of mind.
To borrow from the song again:

"If you can't have just what you want,
Then love what you are able to get."

Thanks for all your wisdom Daveroo, I really appreciate it!!!

I have much to be thankful for and as long as my daughter and I are together, everything will be fine, but I've had jobs that I hate and jobs that I love, and life is much, much better when you have a job you love. I have lived places I love, and lived places I hate and life is much better somewhere you love.

If I had to make do I could, and I most definitely would. I guess since this is the first time in my life I actually got to CHOOSE vs. haveing to move for job or husband etc... I was trying to get the most out of it... hope that makes sense.

I only meant that as if I HAD to choose between one or other. The places I lived in that I hated did have parts I liked, and always frequented those places the most

In the end, that wasn't enough to keep me staying there though. I had always longed for something better.
My practical suggestion when moving from one State/Country to another is...plan to visit there several times. Stay a day, stay a week. Grab a backpack, a map and explore

Don't have a strict schedule, or an agenda. Just roam around to where ever you think looks like it would be fun to go.
You'll know when you found the right spot to plant your feet.

Portland Oregon
Seattle Washington
nice climates, healthy living, lots to do, forward thinking (as in chickens in almost every back yard)
I know these weren't on your list, but I felt compelled to put them on here, as I totally love both cities for what they have to offer. Unfortunately, I would rather battle triple digit heat in the summer here in Pendleton just because I'm a country girl at heart, and really need my wide open spaces.
