Where should I move???

Well it makes me sad

when I think about you moving; but I TOTALLY understand.

While I no longer reside there, (DH is up there working) the Seattle area is wonderful if you do not mind less sunshine than CA and a bit (ha ha) more rain. If not Seattle, there is also Everett (north of Seattle) also with some larger hospitals.

My dearest Sister Chick, I hope only for the best for you and your wonderful human chicks.

It doesn't have to be black or white, I guess is my point. I want to encourage the OP to get the most she can from life. Yet, there are times we may not find the perfect job, in the perfect place, under all the perfect circumstances we've set forth. That's life, right?

So you hit the highlights and make the best of what you are able to find. Tying your happiness to external things, work, location, etc. is a recipe for dissatisfaction - no matter where you are or what you do.

Obviously there are some pretty awful jobs and some pretty bad places.... but that doesn't really apply to the OP. She has lots of options.

Just remember, happiness is within. It is a state of mind.
To borrow from the song again:

"If you can't have just what you want,
Then love what you are able to get."

Thanks for all your wisdom Daveroo, I really appreciate it!!!

I have much to be thankful for and as long as my daughter and I are together, everything will be fine, but I've had jobs that I hate and jobs that I love, and life is much, much better when you have a job you love. I have lived places I love, and lived places I hate and life is much better somewhere you love.

If I had to make do I could, and I most definitely would. I guess since this is the first time in my life I actually got to CHOOSE vs. haveing to move for job or husband etc... I was trying to get the most out of it... hope that makes sense.

It does. It makes perfect sense to review options, especially when having them is a new thing. I can relate.

And I believe you've already solved your problem way back - ALASKA. It is your lifes dream, I believe you said, remember?

Sometimes we get hesitant or spend time looking around when we already know what we want.

I vote for Alaska. Im sure they could use your skills up there.

whatever you do.. dont move to TN.. lol

Its not all that great.. trust me.. after 10 years here I want to leave so bad I can taste it.
Now.. the following are my personal opinion.. your may vary ..

TN has some of the rudest people in the USA..
Everyone thinks they are better than you are if they drive a newer vehicle.
Tenn care fraud and food stamp abuse is rampant in TN
The smokie mountains have really bad air quality issues.. so does most of TN
Jobs around here are not plenty ... despite whatever you heard lately.
This is the bible belt.. enough said

Meth is huge problem in TN
Land is way overpriced in most towns.
TN seems to operate at a different speed..slow.. seems that people dont operate with a sense of urgency.

But in Portland, OR, you are only allowed three chickens and NO roosters.

AND...it's almost always rainning!

First, I would suggest that anyplace you are seriously considering moving, you visit during various times of the year first. Get to know it before you move.

If Alaska has always been your dream, do it! Why let fear keep you from a dream? You can do anything you set your mind to. My aunt and female cousin lived in Alaska and raised my cousins two children without a man around. If they can do that, you can certainly do well there. Plus, think of how many eligible men are in Alaska! Women are way outnumbered there!

I went to Maine over the summer and absolutely fell in love with it. There is a test on Facebook, not accurate I am sure, but it tells you after a few questions what state you should live in. I took it before my trip to Maine, and after visiting, I could easily see myself living there if it were not for the bitter cold. I'm a Southern boy at heart, so I am down here to stay! lol Maine is really, really beautiful, though, with tons of outdoor activity opportunities.

I also would like to put a good word in for Portland. Wonderful climate, no shoveling snow, but you are not too far from mountains if you ski. Also we have the beach, and desert. Portland is a wonderful city with so much to do PLUS you can have chickens. It doesn't get too hot or too cold. Also it is RIGHT on the Columbia river which you can do lots of different recreational activities on.
