hello,
another newbie questioin... so what is the difference between the eggs or day old chicks from the hatcheries and ones from private people on this site?

Is one better than the other?

Like if I was to get some BO where should I get them from?

ok thanks

In my opinion, for your first batch of birds, go ahead and order chicks from a hatchery. If you were trying to show them, you would need to buy from a breeder. But for backyard egg-laying &/or broilers, hatchery works great. They may not have a perfect comb, or their legs might be the 'wrong' colour for the breed, but that doesn't keep them from laying, or becoming nice pets.

Hatching the eggs yourself is an amazing process, but it takes extra equipment, time, emotional energy, and you have no guarantee that you'll end up with the correct number of live chicks in the end. So I recommend doing that as a 2nd year project.

If you don't need 25 chicks, several hatcheries allow small orders. I can think of Meyer and Ideal right now.
