Hi Gardeners, anyone know where to buy Ginger roots for planting? My normal source for plants and seeds in my area, Territorial Seeds, doesn't sell any. I went on Amazon, and the offerings were ahem, questionable at best.
I'd like to grow some ginger, either in my greenhouse, in a container or both, enough to spice up meals, make Indian recipes, or grind it up for my spice jar. Anyone have a reliable source?

How to Grow Ginger Indoors

Burpee has it listed for sale but as currently being out of stock.

Will the ginger root you buy in the produce section of market grow? I often dont use all mine and u see the beginning of small green eyes

According to the articles R2elk posted, it will because it apparently doesn’t have growth inhibitors sprayed on it like potatoes do. But if you are worried about it and/or don’t want to grow something with possible pesticides on it or whatever, then you can buy the organic ginger. Plus it might be good to start with the best anyway. But any ginger should work even the non organic one.

It does seem like
I just googled it and you can actually just use some fresh ginger from your local grocery store (I would actually try Whole Foods for this). Check out this out. Apparently you can grow it indoors in New England. I may have to give this a try.

I want to try it too but it does seem like it takes a while to grow and I am inpatient LOL plus I don’t really eat ginger or cook. But I want to start.

I found some ginger root in the gardening section at Walmart. It was over with the spring bulbs. I bought a package and have it planted. I'll let you know if it grows.

If buying ginger from the store, be sure and get organic. Since the US is irradiating a lot of fruits/veggies now, it may not grow. I bought some and planted it. Even though it had several buds showing, it just rotted in the pots.
