Where to buy Organic Chicken Feed?

After online searching for where I could purchase organic layer feed, I took my research to my local feed mill. I was hoping I could convince them to either carry or special order feed for me. Much to my surprise, they carry just what I was looking for. Nothing is mentioned on their web site.

If you live in the Jackson, Michigan area, you can purchase organic layer feed from Napoleon Feed Mill, Napoleon, MI. They sell Natures Grown Organics and said they normally keep some in stock. If they run out, they can have it in within three days.

I found a coop that carries organic pellets - Belle Mead Co-op in Hillsborogh NJ.
I usually buy from CountrysideOrganics.com as the chickens like the mash better than the pellets. But in a pinch if I need to have it right now, I drive out to Belle Mead.

Where do you buy organic feed?  Is is sold at your local feed store?  And what kind?


I had a really hard time finding organic feed locally when I was starting out with my own chickens.  The internet was little help for a local or even regional source.  I found a store on my own by chance, but since then I have been working on a list of organic feed suppliers and retailers on a BYC page.  I really want to add more FEED STORES that actually keep it in stock.  Do you buy it at a feed store or a mill rather than have it shipped?

Blue Seal Feeds in South Windham carries organic layer feed. They always have it in stock.

-found fabulous organic layer CRUMBLES - finally!!!! D&L Farm and Home in Denton, TX carries NatureSmart organic layer crumbles. My chickens do not like the pellets nor the organic feed that is "powdery". -so happy to have crumbles. They also have organic chick starter, organic scratch grain, and organic cracked corn!

Hey, just wanted to remind people that just because something is "non-gmo" like the Scratch and Peck Feeds, does NOT mean it's organic. With Scratch and Peck, they use conventional camelina meal right now and are looking to become certified organic (from talking to their rep). Their bag has a big "non-gmo" label on it, and many people just assume that means organic. One other point is that if a feed is "certified organic," it is automatically non-gmo so they don't need to label it as such. Just thought I'd share!
