Where to buy TIny Heat-Producing Bulbs In RED??

Quote: I thought I heard that when the 100 were phased out the manufacuters then started making 90 watts. lol I hate the poisons in the energy efficient bulbs. AND I hate how long it takes to get them up to full light. I go in a room and want instant light for about 30 seconds , than back out and light off. I now leave the light on ALL day so I have light when I need it. CRAZYYYYYY. Need to get that bulb changed OUT-- need stool, steadyhands to unscrew the shade and chnge the bulb. Ugh. Gotta get it changed out!!

I have always used clear bulbs for my birds and always will. I have never had a problem with birds pecking each other. My feed store decided to carry only 250 watt red bulbs this year so I am using 75 watt reptile clear bulbs. Walmart only had 250 watt clear and I got one. I like my CFL bulbs. They have saved me a good amount of money and the tiny bit of mercury they contain is minuscule compared to the tons being spewed out by coal fired power plants. Using CFLs means less mercury contaminating the environment because of lower electric usage.

For your purposes, light bulbs produce heat equal to their wattage, whether they're CFL, incandescent, whatever.

Hmm, I think you missed what I mentioned about having to leave on the CFL's and THAT is a total waste. I would rather use a flashlight than use CFLS's. We are very energy efficient here. Wood heat from our own land. THisck walls on the house are super insulated. The interior walls of my house are painted white to reflect as much light as possible; BUT the house is shaded by . . shade trees in summer which cuts down on the light making it thru the windows. No perfect answer-- I"m going with what works for me: the ability to turn on and shut off as needed. I use less electricity with the incandecent.ANd we dont have many elecronics. . . . I'm ready to go solar!!

Picked up two red bulbs at WM. Only had 25 watt sizes. MIght be good enough for summer use.

Thank you everyone for heading me in the right direction.
