I am looking for a list of materials needed to build a pallet coop. I will go 2 pallets wide and 2 pallets tall for each wall, so depending on what pallet sizes I am getting(either 36" or 42" squares) I will have a 6x6 or 7x7 coop. what all do I need to round up other than the 20-24 pallets I will need, and paneling to cover the exterior walls/roof? some 2"x4"s? Basically what all is entailed in conecting the 4 walls to the floor and each other, and the roof? Plus I will be building on a slope so I will need some cinder blocks or stilt legs to level it. I have seen some neat pallet builds, I just dont know what all is used to make one. after I get the pallets together, floor down, walls up and roof on, the rest is simple stuff.

I'm curious about this too. My next coop will probably be a pallet coop, but I have no idea how to go about it.

snooptwomey-Please post pictures as you build! I love seeing what people do with pallets!

Ok, I def will take pics. I can get pallets for free, so its just a matter of right after I move Mar 1st, I will have to grab 4 or 5 loads of 4 or 5 pallets each time, and get them to the new place and start building. I am not expecting it to be too difficult or expensive.

Here is a pallet coop that one of the members started on not too long ago. In the pictures you can kinda see what they used to attach the pallets together with. They don't have that many details but it's worth a look.

Here's breeding pens that somebody built out of pallets. Doesn't look like what you're planning but you might pick up some good ideas. They took lots of good pictures.

Did you try searching for "pallet coops"? That might come up with more pallet coops to give more ideas.
Wish I actually knew something about building them so I could be of more help!

Maev: Those are great! Thanks alot, that gives me alot of ideas and there were alot of people throwing advice around in that post that will help. Thanks!!

I was wanting to make a coop as cheap as possible. I tried looking up pallet coops and couldn't really find too many that looked good. the ones that did offered very, very little construction photos :/ I can't wait to see how yours turns out!

By the stuff I am seeing for building this, shouldnt be too bad. I already know where I can get the pallets, on a local "freecycle" board I just picked up an almost new exterior metal door, with doggy door cutout already in it, and 4 full sheets of laminate sheetboard, which will cover most of the entire interior or exterior of the coop, havent decided what to cover the outside with since this sheetboard is only 1/8" so it will probably cover the inside better. and I will dissasemble pallets or something to get wood planks to cover the exterior so it looks more like exterior wood siding, i also have an OLD wood door from an old farm house that I could use as well, windows from the same old farm house, I posted on craigslist that I was looking for an old downed barn or outbuilding that I can come haul away some of the materials from that I could use, and an older guy responded and brought me out to an old downed 50' x 100' barn, TONS of 2"x4"'s , 2"x6"'s, and a bunch of other usable things. I am trying to spend NOTHING if possible lol It seems like pallets will provide enough diff cuts of wood that there isnt much more wood needed other than some 4"x4" posts for mine(since my property is on a slope), whatever I decide to cover inside floor with(plywood?), and however I decide to make the roof(sloped or with a peak like a house roof) so i dont know, might just remove all the pieces of wood off the top of pallets, so I am just left with the square frame and then use two of them to meet at a peak and then cover with plywood. I am new to building with wood, framing stuff in, leveling, all that stuff. So i am just winging it. I would also like to be able to build this thing in a weekend. i will only be able to round up the pallets 4 or 5 at a time since they are getting stacked on top of my scion xb, so i will probably get a load, then build one wall(since each wall takes 4 pallets), get another load, build next wall, etc. and this is because the place where I will be getting pallets is by my work which is like 40 min from the house, so its only one load of pallets per day. I wont be moving to the new house till Mar 1st, so my build wont start till right after that, i dont want to start getting pallets now, only to have to then move them in 2 weeks. But I will keep adding to this post as i found things, or think of ideas.

ThinkingChickens:
That is a cool looking pallet coop in those plans. I am going to create a thread asking for someone who has paid for some coop plans that wouldnt mind sharing them. Alot of them are in electronic form, so someone can email them. I KNOW there has to be atleast 25 people on here who have paid for coop plans, so hopefully somebody doesnt mind sharing.
