First I need to say that I can't find a vet willing to run a fecal. They all say they don't treat farm animals.
That being said, I think I need to treat for cocci. I have seen some blood in the poo of one of our groups of chickens and have had 2 die. One I found all huddled and fluffed up with her eyes closed and thought she was chilled. She died about half hour after I brought her in the house. Other chickens in this group (all are 2-4 months old) were fine this morning. This afternoon, another was huddled up the same way. These are fairly recent additions and they also have lice. I picked up some ivomec eprinex for the lice and general worming and have sevin to use around the pen, but I know none of this will take care of cocci.
I am unsure if cocci is even the problem, but am afraid to wait and see if the ivomec takes care of the problem. I am afraid they will all be dead before I find out if it was cocci or just worms that the ivomec will take care of.
Problem is, I can't find sulmet or anything else for cocci (can't remember the other off the top of my head ... kinda stressed out atm
). Where do I find this stuff? Do I have to order online somewhere? Will it get here in time?
Also, (sorry) how long after using topical ivomec can I use something for cocci? I don't want to poison them with too many things at once. And what about their environment? What do I disinfect with so they don't just pick it up again? Will garden lime kill it? (if I can manage to find any ... sigh
Your help is much appreciated. This board is awesome. So full of knowledge and you all are so helpful to those of us still learning how to care for our chooks!
