Where to find ? Images Baby Chickens To Identify Breeds

Hi

I wasn't sure if I should of posted this here, or in the raising baby chicks section?

I was just wondering if there is an online source or book even that anyone can recommend that has BABY/CHICK images of most STD heavy chicken breeds? Both pullet and cockeral images would be great.

I have placed a good sized order of about a dozen different chicken breeds, with some even being different colors within the same breed and will have no way of identifying who is who.

I wanted to put together a little reference book for myself so when they come I will be able to identify.

I guess some breeds would be easier then other based on size... but is it even possible to determine breed or sex within the first few weeks based on color? Am I out to lunch so to speak on this project?

Maybe some of you have these breeds and have images or them as chicks, I'd really appreciate it if you could or would post a picture for me. Something you don't mind me printing off for my book.

You can look on most hatchery websites and there will be pics of the adults and chicks. And i think they are pretty accurate. Just go to mcmurray hatchery and look up the breeds and there should be a picture of the chicks

THX That was exactly what I was looking for... Awesome site.

However I think my heads hurts now...

white birds are yellow
barred birds are black
many are like little chipmunks

one thing is for sure none look like they do when matured!!!!

This is not as easy as I thought... I will take pics of all chicks when they arrive and then try to match against pictures. I need to find a way to mark who is who so I can log colour changes as they mature, I think it would be neat to have reference like this.

Buy a pack of zip ties. Use small ones for the baby chicks, make sure they have room to grow. Then switch to larger zip ties as they get older. Make sure you watch the zip ties to ake sure they don't get tight on the legs, but not so loose they fall off. If you have more varieties than the color of zip ties, double up on the ties to colr code the chicks.

Hi !,
Chipmunk looking chicks are built on the e+ locus. Also called wildtype. They can be pure e+ or
1/2 of another locus like eb ( Brown).
eb(Brown) chicks have a characteristic "Brown helmet" as opposed to the e+ chicks which have
a well defined head stripe which comes up the nape of the neck and across the top of the skull.
Sometimes a chick which is 1/2 e+ and 1/2 eb will have the chipmunk stripes with a brown helmet .

I have three chipmunks. But I had a packing slip with my mystery variety pack of 10. So according to my research, they could be Cream Leg horns or Rhodebars. But I am not sure cause I have two of another breed who I can't ID.
