where to get an adult cat?????

I may not completely agree with your inside outside view of cats completely (though I do to a point) but everybody has their own opinion and if the cat is happy and healthy to each their own. Some areas it’s ok and in some areas not. But I did want to say you know that you did an awesome thing by adopting those cats. The ones that are way up there in age almost never get adopted and it’s so sad. You did an awesome thing for those cats and it’s heartwarming to hear that at least they can spend the remainder Of their years happy and being loved

The only bad part of it is I now have 5 senior cats and 3 senior dogs. Way to many seniors at one time and it won't end well. My heart breaks just thinking about it.

It is heartbreaking to think about. The first cat I got is now 14 and our beloved shepherd mix will be 12 this year. Adopted her when she was five. My other ones are getting up there in age but I’d say middle-aged now. Even though it’s heartbreaking to see them all growing old fast and knowing the time is coming you have done such a wonderful thing. They could’ve sat in a shelter cage and died alone but they got to live out there years happy and healthy. And your Siamese are beautiful

I'm rather shocked that any shelter or rescue requires declawing. You might want to double check that to make sure that you heard right. Many rescues do require indoor only homes, however, they almost never check up on that. I currently have an indoor only cat, but I've had both, and there are pros and cons to both. I agree with those that suggest craigslist and checking for posts at pet stores and vets. Adult cats looking for homes have a hard time finding them, and it shouldn't take you long to find someone desperate to give their cat to a good home.
The declawing thing with shelters is shockingly becoming more common. I definitely don’t agree with it. I don’t think I would appreciate it if somebody came in with my fingernails off. Ouch. But again to each their own. But sometimes if you go to the next county the rules are different. My brother went to adopt a cat at one and they said He had to declaw her. So he chose to go to the shelter the next county over and the only thing they said she had to be spayed That’s it. Which I completely agree with that. So you never know maybe just try the next county or town nearby maybe the rules will be different

I see your point to an extent. But it stung little bit when you said it’s how much you value your cat. I love my pets like they are my children. And if I thought they were in any imminent danger I would not allow them to go outside. We live on a dirt road with one set of neighbors about a mile from a main road. They’ve never bother the neighbors and thankfully no one has come to dump their stray cats here. There was a few when we moved in which our neighbors have adopted. We don’t keep food out there for several reasons and they’re called to come in every night. They can come inside and out as they please during the day but prefer to be outside. But I value my animals so very much Otherwise why would I have just dropped $800 on ear surgery
My cat never went out. Did I miss-type?? Indoors lived 22 years. Some people don’t value cats. I’m so confused. Ima gona go pull weeds.

I know your cat never went out. And that was your choice and I don’t disagree with people making their own decisions. Like I said your cat was happy and healthy and that’s what really matters. I didn’t send that post to be argumentative in anyway at all. I respect any person that keeps our pets happy and healthy. I’m happy that she lived 22 years . I had an outdoor cat when I was very very young that live to be 20 years old. I was just responding to say it hurts a little bit when somebody says that Ia person may not value their pet because I let her outside. Like I said I’m not trying to be angry or argumentative in anyway that’s not who I am. Just saying because of the animal lover that I have always been it just stung a little bit that’s all

If you have a local clinic that specializes in a spay and neuter program, I would bet money that they would be happy to take your info and find a kitty for you.

I work at an animal birth control clinic and we have at least one adult cat looking for a home every week. Plenty of them have made excellent barn cats for people that come in looking for just that. When the other alternatives for the millions of unwanted cats are TNR (trapped neutered and released back where they were found) or euthanasia, I am happy someone wants to give them a chance indoors or out.

Sure there are risks, but it’s far better than no chance at all. There are not enough homes that can provide what your rescues are requiring. They need to be more realistic.

I didn’t realize areas release them again with no home! Innoway I guess I’m surprised that our shelter doesn’t do that. It is packed and I mean packed Because it’s a no kill shelter. It breaks my heart to see all of them in there when I drop off my fundraiser donation at Christmas. Sometimes I will just leave it at the door right before they open because it’s too heartbreaking to walk in. Even their back area that has a big bay door is packed. Pigs. Actually several. Once I saw goat in there! He looks so sad I begged and begged my husband to bring him home when I finally convinced him we went back and somebody had adopted. Thankfully he found a good home. Even though front room when you walk in is a large bunny condo with about some rabbits and some in one side and some in the other. I’m guessing they’re separating the males and females so they don’t end up with 400 rabbits

I wasn’t upset just confused that I muddled what I was trying to say. No worries. Dumping=not valued. Indoor or outdoor=lifestyle. Claws no claws=lifestyle. Not caring=not valued. That’s what I meant by it’s all about lifestyle and value. Okay now I really need to go pull some weeds! lol

Our city is trying to reduce the unwanted cat population without euthanizing them all. Our clinic does anywhere from 2 to 8 Trap Neuter Release cases per day. That’s 5 days a week and one or two Saturdays a month.

They are vaccinated, spayed, & ear tipped on one ear; an easily visible sign that shows people that they will not be providing more kittens. When they are released back into the territory from which they were trapped, they no longer breed and they discourage other new cats from moving in. It’s not an ideal situation, but it is a real one. Some are friendly (and we do try to find those a home but it’s impossible to do that with all) and some are feral. But it’s one less cat that the humane society has to figure out what to do with.

When the program started we were TNR’ing easily twice as many every day. It has helped the area.
