Where in Washington to get quality RIR chicks! Our farm store " North 40" gets them in every week from a local hatchery in Washington! But not sure if anyone has any experience with the birds from the hatchery by Walla Walla!!

Look up NPIP breeders and hatcheries on NPIP website. There are stock codes in the state document that will come up when you click on the state you want. Codes are listed on left side of the website.

For standard sized birds, codes are:

R1048 for RIR

R183 for Rose comb RIR

R247 for single comb RIR

As far as I've seen, hatchery RIRs are the orange 'production reds' type, nothing like the SQ mahogany RIRs that show breeders have. I have no idea what they might be like, and I don't like the production reds at all. Check with the breed club website (there must be one!) for actual heritage type birds.
