Hi- Not new to chickens but husband wants to raise meat birds. I'm lost. Where is the best place to buy meat bird chicks from? We also need a small quantity, under a dozen. I know many hatcheries require 25 or more. I checked out mypetchicken.com but looks like they don't sell meat birds. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!

Hm...is there some sort of website for local chicken breeders to advertise?

Where are you located? Are you anywhere near a hatchery that you could go pick them up? You might try your local feed store. Oftentimes they can order some for you, or they may know a local source. Another option is to try to find someone to split an order with you.

I'm in Western Washington. I don't think there are any hatcheries around here and the feed stores seem to be done with chicks. I suppose I could ask around. Do any online hatcheries sell fewer than 25 chicks? At this point I think that would be the easiest option. Thanks again!

The only place I have seen that will ship less than 25 is My Pet Chicken, but like you already said, they don't carry meatties. Sorry I can't think of anything else. Good luck!

Check out ideal hatchery. They just have a $20-$25 min. We ordered 9 chicks. The total has to just be over $20 before shipping ( which is very cheep)

Maybe try craigslist, and if you don't see any for sale, put a WANTED ad up.

(BTW, I'm in Western WA, too. Seattle.)

Dunlap hatchery is in IDaho....close to Eastern washington

Cackle will ship 15 I believe.

My 2 cents.....I bought 10 meat birds this year and its not like theyre a ton of work, I should have bought 20.
