I have two pekin ducks about a month old and they get scared very easily with sudden noise or movements or even loud noises. It’s going to be storming all night and I know my ducks will be frightened because it stormed a couple weeks ago and they absolutely HATED it. They were even trying to squeeze their way out! They were scared and crying for help. It makes a lot of noise when it rains because their coop has a tin roof. Is there anything i can put over the roof so it doesn’t make as much noise?

hi @JNC if you have any kind of isolation material like PIR https://www.jandeisolatieman.nl/pir...MI252Cs4mW6gIVh4eyCh3Jww9uEAYYAiABEgIx_vD_BwE that would help to make less noise.

if you don’t have this you can fixate some thick fabric on top like a bathtowel etc. Just for tonight. A tin roof is not such a good idea for duckies. First because of the noise when raining but also because of the heat when the sun is shining, can you adjust your coop? What kind of materials do you have?

Okay! I’m new to ducks and I didn’t know that my ducks would need a special coop. The coop definitely needs an uprgrade. I feel like a horrible duck mom for not knowing all of this. I was actually looking at duck coops but don’t know which is right for my ducks. I have 2 pekin ducks (both 7 weeks old) and 3 ducklings that will have to sleep outside soon.
This is the coop I found for a good price but I don’t know if it’s right for them.
Duck coop I am planning on getting
What coop do you suggest me on getting?

Ducks don’t need a special housing... don’t worry you will do fine!

a few rules: it should be predatorproof, there should be good ventilation since ducks are moist. if you feed them inside the coop, make a dedicated area for food/water providing since they are so messy...

How does your dedicated area for food look like? and how big should my duck coop be?

Not necessary to have food an water inside once they are 6 weeks old. But ventilation is very important does this coop have any windows ?
Don’t ducks need food and water access whenever they want? The coop is only for the night. I take them out around 8:30am. It does not have any windows but there’s about a centimeter of spacing between each wodden bar.

They do need water and food when they are ducklings. When adults if it’s only for the night it’s as @Miss Lydia says. Not needed but not forbidden

That coop is for chickens ducks will have a hard time getting up an into it they would need a wide ramp and not steep. Something a foot or less off the ground would work better for ducks.
