Been a long time coming, but maybe brighter days ahead, ya?
Got my 8ftx12ft screened in run done a month ago, still working on 4x4x8ft coop. Some painting and sealing, add chicken door, add screens to big cleanout doors, etc. Coop will be off ground 16in, outside the run, 4ftx4ft end up against run screen, hole in screen for entry gang plank into coop.
Now trying 29qt commander covered totes for nest boxes, 2 holes cut into long side for 2 nest boxes. Inside, placed partition between them.
So, heres the question... girls are about 90 days old, and i found my very first 2 eggs on ground in run. Coop isnt done yet. Probly cpla more weeks.... so, is it ok to just put the nest boxes out in the run for now? Later on, if i put them in coop, will they go inside to lay or continue laying outside?
Run has 3/4 covered by tarp hung from rafters for wind n rain protection, and all seem happy enough.
So, where to place the new nest boxes, in run ok for now?
Thanks! Share my happy at 1st 2 eggs,!
