Where to Put the Windows?

10x10 coop. I know to put ventilation above their noggins when roosting. I know how much ventilation I need.

What I need is to know where on the walls I should put the windows.

I'm trying to avoid reframing for the windows, which means I gotta put them between the studs. Super limiting, I know. Keep in mind, I will have 2 windows on the wall directly opposite these, so I can have different locations on each wall, if that matters.

Option 1: Between the studs toward the outside of the wall.

Option 2: Closer together.

Option 3: Ignore symmetry.

Windows are sash windows and open upward. Everything will be below the windows, really.

Two 10' roosts will be along one of the windowed walls. A third 10' roost will be along the back wall. The nest boxes will be on a windowless wall.

I really just want to know for aesthetic purposes. I have two other coops and have kept poultry for decades.

#2 looks best but do consider the inside layout. Where are the roots? You don't want anything drafty in the winter.

I liked option #3. It would give you natural light evenly in the coop, and I like the spacing. Option #2 is my second choice, but it looks like the windows are too close together. Option #1 would be my last pick because I just don't prefer to see windows on the far edges of the building.

For aesthetics, I think it would look better to have the opposing walls have the same window arrangement.

:idunno Well, those are my thoughts. What option are you leaning towards?

Goodness. I know how to arrange a coop. I said as much in my post.

Nevermind... Forget I asked...
Sorry..from how many rules are broken in the contest threads, I can tell you not many people read through threads! 🤣

But the way you worded your question with "need to know" and where "should" you put the windows made us assume you were asking which option would be the most practical.

The longer a thread goes, the more off topic things can get. Lots of people only read the most recent page of posts and answer. Like many people, I was also thinking of placement of roosts and such inside the coop. But OP was clearly not concerned about that.

If OP @Jkbaca is still following the thread, it would be nice to hear what their thought is on the aesthetics proposed and what was finally decided. Stuff like that is mostly personal preference, so it can be fun just to hear what option was decided and why.
