Where were you when the world stopped turning?

Every morning I would turn on the news as I got ready for work, but on the morning of 9/11 I decided to listen to a CD I bought the day before instead. When I got to work, they had a TV in the room and everybody was watching it. I saw a plane hitting a building and wondered why everybody was watching some movie. The thought of somebody attacking the USA didn't even enter into my head. About 15 minutes later someone told me it was real. I remember feeling totally stunned and walking around in a daze that day.

Too young to understand. Parents lived in Manhattan though, and DF came incredibly close to dying. DM thought she was a widow when he didn't come back for hours but it turned out he was running down a bridge trying to get closer. Firemen were yelling at him he was going the wrong way.

That's what you get when you have a journalistic pappy ;)

We were in upstate NY planning to take a train trip to Canada with friends. Their son came to the house and said turn on the television. We spent much of the day watching TV and crying then took a ride through the Catskills. We drove home the next day taking all rural roads and were impressed and elevated by the presence of so many flags in support. Where has that unity/sense of country gone?

Thanks to everyone who has contributed, keep them coming! And I could not say enough, how grateful this nation is to the first responders, military, and others who helped people that day, and every day. YOU are the heroes this nation needs. God Bless America!🇺🇸

On September 11, I was riding my bike up and down our road when I heard our towns wildfire siren going off, I could hear the next towns siren too. I remember seeing neighbors who shouldn't have been home from work barreling down the road. We got the TV on right before the second plane hit, I remember my parents crying, realizing the those buildings were full of people, those planes were full of people, the debris was full of people. Then I remember a candlelight vigil at the school for those missing, lost and helping. Next many cousins and family were enlisting. Every Saturday after that for about 15 years, the sirens would go off at noon for testing which wasn't done before.

I was at work walking down a concourse when people started running every which way. Some were crying, all were extremely upset. I was trying to figure out where they were running from and what was the problem. I seen a bunch watching the TV at the end of the hall and then they would try to use the cell phone and then run towards their office. Found out later none of the phones were working. I was watching when the 2ñd plane hit. About then my boss called, on the walkytalky and asked where I was. I said watching TV, he said he knew about the plane "going off course" and hitting the building but I need to go check the temperature in a room. I told him a second plane hit the other tower and I thought we were under attack. He said no it was a replay of the same plane. I said that both towers had planes in them. ...... :barnie he wouldn't believe me

When I got to where he sent me, they were crying that the local nuke plant was going to be the next target and we needed to run. They couldn't believe my boss would be worried about mundane things when the world as we knew it was ending.... scary day
