If it is a rat snake it is not a threat to you or your full size chickens. Take a few deep breaths.

You can use fake eggs to discourage the snake. After swalloring a few fakes and having to regurgitate them it will either starve or start going after rodents instead.

DGS started screaming Sunday PM and running for the deck. Told his dad that there's a snake in the sandbox. It was - a baby chicken snake. And dad let it get away

Said he didn't have anything handy to kill it with.

Knew there was a bigger one around, because I'm only getting 2 or 4 eggs per day out of 10 hens. AND, my clay nest eggs keep disappearing! Thought a clay egg would do a snake in! LOL
