Where's the grammar police??

You guys should learn to turn a blind eye to others' mistakes , especially since the original poster doesn't seem to know the difference between 'apostrohes' and "quotation" marks. Yeah, it bugs me sometimes , but only when it is unintelligible. I certainly wouldn't start a thread like this with a mistake in the heading and mistakes on all of my bullet points.

I really have never understood why people get so bent out of shape just because anyone comments in a general fashion about communicating in a concise and understandable fashion. It seems to me to be an extreme over reaction to a simple observation. Maybe some people have their underwear on too tight.

Like in all things, if you don't agree with the premise, then let it go.

Hasn't EVERY topic on BYC been beaten to death, many times over?

I mean, how many times a day to we see; "HELP!!! FIRST HATCH QUESTIONS???"

And this one gets me every time; "HELP!!! STOPPED AT TRACTOR SUPPLY AND NOW I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO!!!"

I'm gonna say one more thing - actually I'm gonna quote one more thing - then I'll follow my own advice because I know once the "anti" opinion people pop in, it's all over with........

“If language is not correct, then what is said is not what is meant;
if what is said is not what is meant, then what must be done remains undone;
if this remains undone, morals and art will deteriorate;
if justice goes astray, the people will stand about in helpless confusion.

Hence there must be no arbitrariness in what is said. This matters above everything.”

My boss had a stroke awhile back. What he says is not what he means always. I know what he means. I don't correct him.

You mean like you just did?

Maybe you haven't been here long enough to know, but this "observation" is old news.
People have lives outside of this forum that none of us know about and maybe they come here for some respite from it all, they should not have to feel they may not be smart enough for some members to share here.

"Maybe some people have their underwear on too tight. "
Flaming is against the rules here.

In most cases, advertisements in the classified section are written up by the employees of the newspaper; hence the appalling spelling and grammatical errors as in: "dog for sell. Rabbis tags, shots." Our local paper can be a rich source of amusement in this manner. Many of us see grammar or spelling errors all around us that irritate us. That being said, the best action (IMHO) is to use good grammar and spelling oneself, and leave everyone else alone unless you're working together on a project or you are close enough to a person to know you can correct an oversight on their part without offending them. The more we are exposed to good grammar, the more naturally it will come to us in everyday use. (If an individual wants to improve his/her grammar and spelling, one very good method is to read much, and read often! Reading different styles of writing helps us become more familiar with proper spelling and grammar). It does not put us on a higher ground intellectually to be rude or condescending to someone who does not use proper grammar for whatever reason. Let's give more focus to content rather than the style.

I like this one:
