Okay I am going to try to make this story short. We have had a neighbor's dog killing chickens and guineas for years and could never get rid of it so we called the sheriff's dept. Well this morning after 10 days of waiting he shows up and we fill him in on what's been going on. He goes over to the neighbors and they are not home, comes back to tell us they are not home and then we see them come down the road and turn in. We tell the deputy that's them and off he goes BACK to their house. After like 30 minutes he comes back and says he can't get close enough to catch the dog but can get close enough to tranquilize it except he didn't bring the tranquilizer gun. I asked him "what did you come out here for, aren't you the animal control officer and you didn't bring the animal controlling devices?" Anyway he said the neighbors claim the dog isn't theirs and they want it gone too, so we have to set live traps unless you want to go shoot it. What? Did he say go shoot it? I was thinking this is crazy, I HAVE been shooting AT it for 4 years now and he wants me to go shoot it in THEIR yard. Well turns out the neighbors didn't have the guts to just shoot the dog so he had been terrorizing us for YEARS. Well, I was bathing dd and dh says "I can't just go over there and shoot THEIR dog in THEIR yard", to which I reply "here, you bathe the baby and give ME the shotgun. The deputy escorted me to the neighbors, shotgun in hand, flushed the dog out of the yard over towards the tree line and THANK YOU JESUS, NO MORE DOG!!! I got my police report so no one can give me any trouble , and went on about refinishing my coffee table. I have never in all my days!

Pretty sad when you have to start doing someone elses job! But at least you know the dog is taking care of and your property is safe. You wonder why the neighbor just didn't come over and tell you to take care of it earlier or call to have it picked up. Lazy I guess.

Normally I wouldn't like to hear a story about a dog (or any animal) being shot. HOWEVER, since that dog has been terrorizing you and your animals/property for years and it seems that it was homeless and not taken care of it sounds as if you did the dog a favor.

I hope the rest of your week goes well.
