so my existing chickens are getting old so its about time for a new flock i currently have 4 orpingtons but i want to change it up. im looking at barred rocks, welsummers, barnevelders, sussexes, wyandottes, easter eggers, red sex links and australorps. which six of these breeds should i get. im looking for good egg layers that are friendly and like to be held.

All of those breeds are friendly.
All of them are good we egg layers exept wyandottes.
So apart from that it's up to whichever you like.

Those are all good breeds. Wyandottes are not the best for egg laying, but they are beautiful. If you want them to be held, it really depends on how they are treated when young.

I agree with Suet - mix it up...I have 7 total - a golden laced wyandotte, white and barred rock cochin, buff orpington, easter egger, new hampshire red and a cream legbar - they are all very friendly and all lay pretty good.

we had black austrolorps a few years ago and i think they were the best chickens ever. they were absolutely beautiful - we got almost an egg day from each one, and they were super friendly and gentle. they used to come running up to us as soon as they saw us outside. i'm partial, but thats my vote :)

Out of those I like the barred rocks and speckled sussex best. they are the friendliest with me and the other chickens. We have Welsumers too - they really need to free range I think, I am waiting for my whole flock to be big enough and they are getting antsy. And I just had to put pinless peepers on one of my two Wyandottes as she was bullying and featherpicking. We also have Brahmas, RIR.
Don't know about egg laying yet, they are just 16 weeks today.
