i am having some-difficulty deciding on which bantam breed to get. i hope you guys can give me some insight on the breeds listed and which one you recommend. They will be living in a tractor at has a 6x4 run and on top of it is the coop.
OEG bantams
Cochin bantams
silkies
or any or breeds that you think are good
thanks a lot

I have no experience with OEG's but if you're looking for bantams that go broody, either Cochins or Silkies are good.

When I got back into chickens in 2007, I decided to go with Bantams as we don't have much flat land in our yard. I had both Mottled Cochins and Silkies and they were great egg layers until all 6 hens decided to go broody at the same time (3 hens of each breed). We sold the Cochins as there was no way I needed that many broody hens since we have limited chicken space and am slowly phasing out the few Silkies we have left.

Hope this is some help!

rkent how tame are your oegs i have heard that they are very skittish as babies and adults

I do not have aproblem with them be skittish. They probably aren't as tame as the other breeds you mentioned, but I don't spend alot of time babying them.

I have to say I am new to this whole chicken thing but I got some cochins and silkies at the same time. They were handled the same. But now at 4-5 weeks old I have them in a rabbit cage untill the weather breaks. But when I open that door to the cage all the cochins run to the door and start hopping out onto me. The sislkies hide in the corner farthest from me and complain when picked up. So far I am not sold on silkies. I do like Polish quite a bit. They are not nearly as friendly as the cochins but I get a chuckle every time I see them. They just look so funny.

I would reccomend Wyandotte bantams

they are kinda round and poofy like the Cochin bantams but without the feathery feet to get muddy!

I kept them caged in pairs. After we were hit w/Katrina I had to turn them out with the flock. It was so funny here are these lil tiny killer roosters. I had 2 of them. Just to go in the yard to care for the birds was a mission, they had 1 inch long spurs. They would meet you at the gate ready to attack. When I would go there I was prepared with a bucket to put over them . I found them new homes. With someone who knew about game birds. Something to think about.
