There’s literally thousands of posts and pictures, full of information you can pick up to learn more about breeding marans. There’s a great community there all learning from each other and maybe the best place to surf through all the information available.

I don't even have Marans - but this is fascinating. Makes one think hmmm - maybe I could try???

I have always just bred for ...alive. Now, though, I am retired, and a bit of time on my hand. It would be fun to be a part of a group on here... may have to look around.

I have raised chicks, hatched eggs, raised up meat birds...there are just so many aspects to this hobby.

When I first starting looking for a different breed to add, I saw the Black Coppers and thought
"Wow, those are so cool looking how the Roo stands out so much from the girls"
Then learning about them I became intrigued by their origin and interesting facts about them, especially that they lay the darkest egg than any other chicken.
Then as I got into wanting to multiply my flock, and learn to breed I learned their eggs are a whole nother entity with actual judging by color and the cult following to get the darkest egg.

Needless to say I've been passionately hooked ever since and now added the BBS Silvers.
