International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Super happy to have my first Marans broody of the year, and almost 2 months earlier than I've ever had a broody. She's now sitting on 10 Kong (BCM) x Solo (Black Silver) eggs and now I can get her moved over to Poppy- my recessive white BBS Silver cockerel.

Chloe and her eggs...🙂

I have a question about White Marans, is there such a thing as silver based and gold based? A gal I know has a flock of them and she has a lady on FB telling her hers are gold based and wrong. I asked her how the lady would know that just from pics and she said she could tell by their "type of white". I've seen them, and they are just White Marans

I'm very interested in this topic.

Nothing to add other than my Poppy from @Bantambird is an occasional pop up and are Silver based Recessive White.

I'd like to get more now as he's growing on me, but I'm not sure how it all works as far as breeding two Recessives together and how long it would take to get Dominant. It might be a fun project tho.

Older pic, I'm way behind on the pic updates.

Yeah, when the gal asked me I didn't know what to say cuz I don't know about Marans genes in that aspect. I did tell her that all White English Orpingtons are supposed to be recessive white. That lady on FB is telling her that "proper" White Marans are silver based and dominant white. Idk, but it doesn't sound right to me.

Looking forward to learning...
IIRC...Bantambird said the blueish legs on Poppy ties in to him being Recessive.
If I got that correct, that may be a possible indicator when deciphering between a true Dominant White or not.

Can you post any pics of these birds in question? It may help.
