As already mentioned its a certification, and one needed to ship though the postal service. Google NPIP (National Poultry Improvement Plan) to find out the info and intact for your state.

OH! I dont think she will want to do that, she doesnt take birds very seriously...

and think there is really no need at all to have SQ birds, I told her its like having registered goats, and she ignored me....

Then even more important to make sure the local market will pay a higher price for ducks and or hatching eggs since you will not be able to ship. If most in your area can buy pet ducklings for $2.50-$3.00 will they pay more for another duckling? Are there others wanting to show ducks? If so are they looking to show FFA, 4H or regional/national? There is a difference on what quality duck will show well between the two arenas. All things to think about.

If your market is going to be mostly 4H groups and those who show you will want to make sure you keep APA recognized breeds

[[[[[[.......would be $101.50 to buy and ship out 10 TSQ (top show quality) welshie ducklings from holderreads.... thats alot!!......]]]]]

Actually, $10 apiece for show potential ducks is pretty cheap. Save up your money and buy ducks who look like the pretty photos on the internet and get what you want right from the start. It's cheaper to spend the $100 than it is to get ducks with the wrong color bill and have to replace them a couple of times trying to get ducks that look right.

I've had 4 breeds from Holderread, all had excellent temperaments as well as being drop dead gorgeous. My Pomeranian goose from Holderread has won a grand champion waterfowl and had very careful consideration for best in show. Holderreads sends out really excellent birds. They are well worth the money.

One thing to keep in mind is your funds. What if one of your breeders gets sick? How will you afford to care for it?

Also, if you are shipping, you may (at first) have to pay for shipping out of pocket as funds from the sale may not be available immediately.

If you are limited on the number of ducks you can keep by your mom, what are your plans with extras that don't sell? If you are planning a breeding program, you should be trying to improve the line and therefore, would need to allow some ducklings to grow up so that you can rate their individual quality.

Are you planning on staying in your local area forever? If you have plans for college or want to move after you graduate, now may not be the time to do anything other than research breeds. It would be alot of time and money spent that you will forfeit if you move. Also, very few young people are able to move from home right into a similar type property with land etc. (I am assuming you don't want to live at home forever

)

As others have said, take your time. Plan out what you want and what is going to be best for you and the animals in the long run.

Believe me, I am kicking myself for purchasing muscovy a few months ago as now my DH and I have decided to move out of state within 1 year.

Good luck.

That price is great considering your getting ducklings that are from Top Quality breeding lines!
