I'm in canada so can't order from my pet chicken.
Ah. Canada.
Surprisingly, even at $20US each, the Blue Favaucanas are currently showing up as not available at all for the rest of the year. Wow. I guess that window closed quickly.
Green egg layers that I get from Ideal Hatchery lay great. Just as well as a Barred Rock, but I haven't a clue about RIRs as I've never owned one. All the green egg layers that I've ordered have always laid green eggs, never brown or pink. I've never seen a blue egg either; they all look green to me. I'm not familiar with any Canadian hatcheries or lines/strains.
Not all folks consider green egg layers to be a mutts. They can't be called a breed because the APA claims they are the only ones in "America" that can confer the word breed onto a type or style of chicken. See this link for some history concerning green egg layers that offers them some dignity:

Some consider green egg layers to be descendants of the Quechua, which originated in South America. Some consider the Faverolles to be a descendant of the Quechua.
