Hi, I'm new here. Not sure if I'm doing this right, but here goes.
I thought my RIR's were pretty mean until I got a white Leghorn. He was the meanest rooster I ever had. I couldn't go into the coop without a broom or shovel. He attacked me twice. Both times from the top roost in the coop. Ripped my ear the first time. Should of done him in then, but a couple of months later he got me again, bloodied my forehead. I killed him right then. I have never needed a broom or shovel to enter the coop since. I guess I just got used to the routine. Right now I'm having a problem with a buff rooster mercilessly mounting the same 3 hens to the point of cruelty.
I almost forgot. I had an EE rooster at the same time as the Leghorn, and any time anyone entered the coop, he would run the Leghorn off and away from us. He was truly the best rooster I ever had. One day I went out in the chicken yard and he and 2 hens were dead. Something attacked them, but all the rest of the chickens including the Leghorn looked fine, so I assumed it was some sort of predator.
