Get the Barred Plymouth Rocks mine are going on two years and lay daily. you said you wanted to show them. chickens bred for show don't lay as well normally in what i have read about chickens.
not saying yours won't.the barred rocks are good foragers and tolerent to weather extremes.in my area it is heat more than cold.this summer it was 90 -100 degrees from about mid april to sept.and they layed well and took it like little champs. last winter it did get to 19 for couple of nights for about 8-10 hours. i dont have a chicken house just a open air coop.
