I have gone overboard on buying chicks and now have 77. This is more than double what I can afford to feed. I have White Rocks, Barred Rocks, R.I. Reds, Buff Orpingtons, Columbian Wyandottes and Red Sex Links. These are for laying hens. Which breeds are best? which should I keep? Thanks for all help.

Are you looking for dual purpose?
Specifically egg laying?
Possible breeding?
Looks?
Do you mind a mixed flock?

There's more questions I could ask, but it all really depends on if you're mainly planning on resale for the eggs or not.

Choose the calmer ones (if you've had time to socialize with 77 chickens!) I'm sorry you have to give some away, but at least it's better than letting them be starving.

My hatchety BO's were very nice.

I would recommend the following:

-Buff Orphington
-Buff Polish
-White Silkie
-Partridge Chochin
-Salmon Favorelle
-Silver Laced Wyandotte

Check out this website, it's where we order ours. They give a lot of info on each breed, and they also have videos for each!

Enjoy!
