Which breeds did you wish you got?

My chicks are from McMurray too!

I also have a hen that is broody. An OEG bantam.

My partridge and White Cochin hens take turns being broody. I finally bought some fertile eggs to put under her. Today is day 19, so I guess I'll find out in a day or two whether any will hatch or not. I let them sit for 24 hours, then put them under her and pretty much have left her, and them, alone.

My silkie I got in early May has finally gone broody! And her sister insists on cramping into the nest box with her! Anyone ever had a rooster sit by the hens side? He doesn't seem to want to leave her.

My roosters are so cute when they go into a nest box and start digging around and calling hens to come and lay eggs. They are so gentle about it, and the hens come over and look at the nest, seeing if its really as good as the rooster is saying.

So I guess they all do their own thing! I came home to them not in their yard. Simply because Sesame will not leave Yetta. So sesame and Fran were just having out in the temporary coop watching Yetta sit on eggs. :lau

My Copper Moran roos are funny too.. I did not know that may be what he was doing over at the nesting area so much. The two of them will cluck like a hen doing her egg song but much louder. Then my White German Sheperd starts howling, then my mini dachshund and sometimes my shitzu cross. This is every morning every day and any time really. A hen was trying to catch some shade in the tiger lily patch and they thought she was laying I guess. Why do they cluck like a hen? Ever seen that before?

Our roosters cluck along with the hens when the hens lay their eggs and are singing away. When one starts, all the others follow! I'm not sure why they do it, but it just seems to be something like yawning, I guess its contagious.

Today the Silver Laced Wyandotte juvie chicks I ordered from McMurray Hatchery arrived. They seem to be doing fine. I also wanted some buff brahmas but wasn't able to get them. Oh well, maybe next year.

Do you have any pictures of your SLW chicks to post? I have some from McMurray's that I think are SLW, but I'm not sure. They are silver chicks with black laced feathers on their backs ( and down).

Thanks!

I'm pretty sure this is my Silver-laced Wyandotte from McMurray. Its around two weeks old right now. It will lighten with age.
