which breeds do NOT fly? my dh's aunt wants to get some ducks, but is terrified that they will fly away. she likes duck aggs, so good layers is a plus. she already has two great ponds and some horse stalls she can convert into a shelter. so, what would be a good pick for her?

i guess in this case i would say runners. I mean theere is a reason why they are called runners and not flyers, plus they lay well and are a hoot to watch when they walk.

Runners are skittish...and so are khaki's though they are not as bad as runners. For a combination of no flying, great egg laying and friendliness, I vote Welsh Harlequins!

Buffs are also very friendly. Even my flock raised buff duck would eat from my hand, but they are LOUD. My khaki/buff mutt is funny as all get out, very friendly, and even lets me pet her. I think she is insane, but she is very entertaining. Buffs lay about 200+ eggs a year while khakis and Welsh Harlequins lay over 300.
