another thought for you; how about a White Rock ? the hen I "thought" was a Leghorn, turns out to be a White Rock; she's quite friendly, doesn't eat much, and has been dependably laying 6 eggs a week ...
had a talk with the friend I got her from, and she finally remembered that this hen used to belong to her daughter, who had gotten the hen from an egg farm which sold off stock when they went out of business ... the daughter wanted a "production" hen ... so estimates now are that this hen is five to six years old ... still going great
her eggs are pale brown, but definitely brown not cream colored or white ... definitely browner than the ones the black hen with red ear lobes is laying
amusing --- the cooped-up silver EE who has been making lovey-dovey noises at the free-range roo ... this morning dug a hole right UNDER the coop and escaped to be with him ... they are running around the property like a honeymoon couple
Silver Girl has established herself as the Queen, over the black standard hen and the three silver banty hens ... we'll see what Blondie (currently broody) has to say after she hatches her chicks ... she's sitting on 19 of them ...
