Which....Brown egger

I would have to agree on the orps! They are just awesome birds! I think my list right now to look for when I go to the feedstore would be....

Rocks
Sexlnks
Buff Orps
RIR
Leghorns

I wont get them all but I will be getting 6-8 birds when I go so I can mix and match what they have.

I have to say I really love my Black Austrolorp. She's a beautiful bird and very nice too. She's always very reliable. Same with my Barred Rock.

Sam, my Barred Rocks and Orps are fantastic layers. My Wyandottes are just as good, actually. And none of those are huge eaters, either, like my Speckled Sussex girl. Much as I adore Nelda, if I had a whole flock of those, I shudder to think how much more my feed bill would be, LOL.

Edited to add: my RIR girls are also fabulous layers, but they do not lay any better than my Barred Rocks. Pretty much, they match them egg for egg.

I have several breeds including black sexlinks, red sexlinks and RIR's and I can tell you that the sexlinks do not lay quite as well as the RIR's.

Best layers day in and day out has been RIRs for me. I really believe any of the standard brown egg laying breeds will do a pretty good job for you. I htink it really boils down to temperment and character. Still, I am biased to the reds, which were my first chickens ever back in the day.

Yes....I might just stick with dual-purpose pure breeds. The barred rocks and RIRs have been a trusted breed in america for many years! But wont know until I walk in that feedstore doorway and here that one....horrible sound lol PEEP PEEP!
I cant wait for spring!

Well white leghorns will lay white eggs, fyi...if you want white chickens, Delawares lay brown eggs;we just got ours this winter so can't testify yet to their laying.

We had a red star (red sex link) hen, and we loved her; an egg a dayat least and sometimes more.

We have golden comet and shaver red hens; they lay well in the warmer months but not well this time of year.

Okay....and yes I know white leghorns lay white eggs....I just want some more white egg layers in my flock. Probably getting

3 Barred rocks
3 redsexlink
2 white leghorns

I have been thinking about it pretty muchly all day and those seem like the best choices for what Im looking for.

Just have to throw in my two cents. I've had 4 red sex links over my years with chickens. All have been great layers and had great personalities compared to most of my other hens. Calm, friendly and not pigs at all.

Sounds good yall! Thanks everyone for all the help and sharing your expirences with these breeds is really what I was looking for in order to make my descion.
Thanks yall:)
