California is debatable. I guess depends on what part you live in. I will say that none of us in the South Land have ever thought of Cali as being Southern.
I mean Lynyrd Skynyrd didn’t have California in mind when writing any songs.

It is ok, though. Just think about it like this: Cali is just too refined to be Southern. Now Humboldt County?? Yeah, maybe lol
