They're all brown, but which brown, exactly?
This snow is snow, but what kind of snow? Fluffy? Wet? Mashed potatoes? Sleet masquerading as snow like the conniving little snot that it is?
Specifics are very important, but that does not take away from the fact that something may or may not be brown.
... I should go to bed before I ramble on any longer, probably.
I guess Moony should be happy to know that, my nerdy exposition notwithstanding, what I actually said is that he is right. The d#$n horse colt is brown. We just won't call it that.

There are two bases all horse colors are built off of. Chestnut (sorrel) and black. Bay, is black with the agouti gene, which restricts the black pigment to the points of the horse.

Other colors rebuild off of these three bases.

Bay + cream
1 copy: buckskin
2 copies: perlino

Sorrel + cream
1 copy: palomino
2 copies: cremello

Black + cream

Bay + dun= bay sun/dun
Chestnut + dun= red dun
Black + dun= grulla/blue dun

Bay roan

Brown is black with the A^t agouti gene

And you can see it goes on and on, all over those three bases, and the third base uses one of the original two bass
Emma is smart. 😊

A grey horse is born brown. But if you see two or three grey hairs in the eyebrow area, you can be sure it's a grey, and every year it will shed out lighter and lighter until by about age three there is no doubt it will mature grey. Or you can shave half of it, like I did, to prove to a doubtful spouse that you know whereof you speak.
