He's given me an earful before for using things to hammer with that aren't hammers.

PS, I know your Husband's pain. Mine is usually "Who took my @#$#$@ Hammer!" Like, I even purchased separate hammers for the wife and 3 of 4 kids, and my hammers STILL end up in the laundry room because someone's bashed the ice to break it up with them. (we have a stand up deep freezer in there)

Would you not say that using a rolling pin to crush graham crackers or lumpy brown sugar (which is a v.common use) is using it as a hammer?

It comes down to what the tool is meant for. Even if it's crushing out graham crackers, it's all food related. It's not the same as using it to whack a nail into the wall so you can hang a picture.
