Yep. Dying from hypothermia is different than starving to death, you just fall asleep.
I was cold during the outage, but I had my dogs and piles of blankets plus a full belly. Insulation + fuel = life in cold weather.
Lots of people just kinda shut down when things got cold. They threw a blanket on and napped in their favorite chair, they didn't know they were dying.

If I remember right it only takes three hours of unregulated body temperature to kill someone, so it was basically a silent killer to the ignorant.
