If they are diced into oblivion and cooked into something I will eat them. But the second there is a big ol' slimy piece of onion in my mouth, I'm returning it to the person who cooked it. With force. I will tolerate a friend onion ring thing if there's about 5x the amount of delicious batter to onion.
