People talk to strangers here a lot more than in the rest of the country apparently.
And small talk is even taught as part of the "Southern" business protocol. It has become SO contrived however that now it's just annoying.

You should go live in western WA. Nobody talks to you up there.

I have learned that I am an extrovert. I was shocked by the discovery. My TL told us all to keep watch for shifty customers, and if we feel they may be a shifty shoplifter then we are to go over and be polite, but be annoying as f*ck. I swear I grew devil horns at the encouragement to be annoying.
