Brahma hens. They are so quiet. I have three of them and I don't even know they're in the backyard! They haven't started laying yet... so they may become a little "cluckier" but for now they're perfect quiet ladies.

I have Brahmas, Jersey Giants, Cochins, Barred Rock Plymouth Rock....my girls make the sweetest sounds....they are so quiet.....then my new bunch...buff orpingtons and sicilian buttercups are quite the talkers....lol My husband even commented how noisy the 4 new babies were compared to the 9 older girls....

Lol, compared to turkey toms they are all quiet. Luckily I have neighbors that love to hear my guys gobble.

I have EEs and Cornish Xs at the moment. Just gave away a Polish roo. The EEs are not what I would call noisy, but they do get riled up easily and get a bit squawky then and at feed time. I only ever hear the Cornish when it is feed time and I am five minutes late, lol. The Polish was a talker. He was the spokesman for the EE chicks when they were little and he thought they should have dinner. He is a cute little guy. Gave him to my daughter because I intend my EEs to be a breeding flock and already have EE roos.

Edited to reply:Of course Cornish Xs are short-lived, so wouldn't be a consideration for backyard flock, really. These guys are destined for the freezer. Just making an observation about their noise level.
