one of my chicken eggs has been shaking for 2 days now, and I was wondering--will I hear chirping before the chick pips, or after?

Yup, usually before. Sometimes you get a quiet one though, and never hear chirping. Or you just miss it when it's awake. So that's not always a perfect indicator.

Good luck with your hatch!

Most definitely! Or, just "talk" to it yourself--in peeps & chirps, of course! It is so cool when you chirp at an egg and it chirps back!

In my experience I almost always hear a chirp from inside the egg, about 8-12 hours before the first pip. So excited, I go into lockdown tomorrow with 14 eggs. It never gets old.

If they are late hatching I will listen to the egg up close to my ear before I rule them out and sometimes I can hear it chirping!
