Cowboy, you are given up your age. I thought I was the only one to use that method. Just didn't watnt to metion it. There are people that have a fit when I tell or show them some of the medthods I use. That one works well.

LOL No you aint the only one! Thats how I always, and I mean always trap 'em to train my pups! I've tried other ways but they just dont seem to work as well it seems...

I'm not gonna have a fit no matter what methods you wish to share with me. Except maybe a small thermonuclear bomb. I kinda draw the line on that one.

According to Michigan Hunting License booklet "A raccoon or coyote may be taken on private property by a property owner or designee all year if they are doing or about to do damage to private property. A license or written permit is not required.
My oldest son claims where he lives the most effective predator control method is the 3S method. Shoot, shovel, & shut up. Makes sense rather than trying to justify to some hugger that your chickens are more valuable than a weasel, skunk, coyote, raccoon, dog, cat, etc. Well you get my drift.

I find that watermelon or cantaloupe works better than marshmallows. If you have to use just marshmallows, you need to make a fairly dense 'trail' of them leading to the trap, b/c raccoons don't seem to be able to smell their yumminess from all that much of a distance.

Holey coon do batman....

Here I though I was making a dent in the local population with 14 this summer. Live trap and cat food has worked well for me. I keep it up against a large round bale of straw. I feel coons like to move close to stuff to help them hide rather than just out in the open.
Caught 2 fox, 3 possums and 4 cats (ours). Live trap allowed me to release what I was not worried about. Funny about the cats. we have 4 barn cats. Only caught the one but 4 times. Must be a stupid one.

You guys are giving me some great ideas! I recently started having problems w/missing eggs (via raccoons and possums) and missing baby chicks. I bought a Havahart live animal trap (medium size I think ... its 32" x 10" x 12"). I gave up on catching the cat that's eating the chicks after 2 unsuccessful weeks of catfood in the trap (maybe I bought the wrong kind).

I decided to go after the egg eaters by putting a whole egg as bait in the trap and caught a raccoon last night. I am hoping to catch its family using the same method.

Yes this works, but you will be breaking most state laws. Care Care Care . Anything that eats this will be dead within a few feet. Even a small CHILD.

I use both live traps, and leg hold. Bait old eggs that didnt hatch from the incubators. They must smell them for miles.

Good luck. I personally have great luck with the live traps. I have the one that is for large coons/med dogs. It's like 14 wide 16 high? Or was it 16 wide and 18 high? Well, either way, I found placement to be 95% of being able to catch a coon. Gotta put it in a common pathway. I usually bait with marshmellows.

For possums though... don't even have to have bait with them. Just put the trap in a good location and before you know it... you'll have caught literally a dozen possums with air as bait.
