My husband thinks that the halogen lamp will burn significantly hotter and be more of a fire hazzard? I bought a halogen brooder light and bulb today because I heard that they were such an energy saver(together they were about $35, much more initial investment then regular brooder lamps

). It is still getting into the low 20's at night here in NW Montana so my 7 week old chicks will need heat for another month or so. What are your thoughts on the pros and cons of halogen and regular red heat brooder lights?

I'm with your husband on this one Jen. Halogens get too hot.

I am all for saving money any way you can. I tend to favor the red heat lamp only because it tends to save chicks from being pick on.
