I didn't think you were crossing your EE with another type, but what breed are you going with next year?
Mary

Ohhh like dual purpose?

I have a production red rooster and got some delaware and rhode island white to create sex links. Possibly sell the girls and eat the boys.

I also have an australorp rooster and I got some barred rock and speckled sussex. To create black sex links with the barred rock.

and then my layer only flock is my white leghorn with white & brown leghorns. But I may not breed those.

I have some turkens too.

The Olive Egger roo & hens I have may soon be getting phased out or kept but not reproduced.

Right now I only have 14 laying hens, but majority of those laying hens will be processed this winter to start over.

So all the breeds I mentioned are all chicks right now. (Minus the roosters of course)

Don't try to breed EE's. They are hybrids that wont reproduce strong offspring if bred themselves. Like a mule almost.
Not true! They are hybrids. Hybrids come from crossing to standard breeds together. EE’s aren’t a standard breed. They are mutts in the chicken world. That’s why you get so many different colors combinations, no breed standard, and can’t be shown in poultry shows.

I got straight runs from TSC. 4 out of 6 ended up being boys :barnie

I want to keep one to produce more to make up for my bad luck 🤣

Out of these 4 which would you keep? I am aiming toward #3 but I’m curious what others would choose.

Also, do you think I could sell the others or should I just go ahead and eat them? I’m not looking to make a profit by selling them but I’d like to at least break even so that would have to be around $8 to $10 each to break even.

I prefer number 2.- He looks cleaner and crisp. I love that puffy white head and he does look kind

You are going to have an interesting time with all that!
Mary

I am not looking forward to it. I’m doing it more to be self sufficient and not in any way to make money but I wouldn’t mind breaking even 😃

(it was mostly my husband’s idea to get more chickens so we can eat them 😂 so if we don’t sell the girls we hatch they will be food)

The parent stock will never be food after this winter.

Thanks 😃 I’ll see which one out of the 2 is nicest and keep that one. (#2 or #3) 🤔

They’re 12 weeks so I have 4 weeks before their time is up to be turned into chicken stock and other chicken dinners.
