Hi!

We just put our 18 week old girls & one Roo in with our 1.5 year olds..all Buff Orps.

We sell the majority of our eggs and sometimes some of our eggs are not that big...

Is there any way at all that we'll be able to tell which eggs are from our little ones once they start laying?

Should we just plan on not selling any of our smaller eggs for a little while? Seems to me there is nothing really wrong with the eggs but I'd just like to know that any system kinks are worked out before I sell them

Any advice on this is much appreciated!!

around here Pacific Islanders prefer the smaller eggs and swarm to get them. They remind them of the eggs their scrawny feral hens lay back home. They will pay $4/dozen for bantam eggs, and they call them "Native Egg" and get all excited and brag to their friends about them!

I learned a while back to quit predicting what people will want based on my own likes and dislikes. Just put it out there and let it rip! You will be surprised what some people go nuts over that other people think is junk.

I dunno, haven't started selling mine.(I'm too busy eating them)

But what about packaging the small ones in 1 container and the larger ones in another container, and let the customer choose?

Just a thought.

My poultry friend says to charge the same for pullet eggs as regular eggs as they are "richer" and taste better and people want them. I always felt a bit guilty when they were smaller, so I usually just put the too small ones in cartons and give them away to my friends. HenZ

Also, to answer the original question, You can put a drop of food coloring in the vent of a particular bird, or different colors in different birds and you will see the egg the next day will be tinted from the food coloring so you can start to see who is laying what.
