Which Gender is This Chicken?

So based on what I have read, it looks like the red one is a rooster and the white one is a hen. But I don't know if it is that cut and dried. The red one has a more red crest and has different color feathers around the neck. What do yall think?

How old are they? Based on the comb color I would say that the brown one is male and the other is female. The comb is pea, and on the first I believe I see three rows of peas with would mean he is male.

Thanks! They are five weeks old. The red one is Americauna/Rhode Island Red cross, and white one is all Americauna or however you spell it.

Nope, shouldn't. He's too young to be able to tell by the feather color, by 16 weeks you can see that (sometimes in some breeds; don't rely on this) but he looks to be 5 or 6.

Pea combs are just a type of comb. There's single, rose and a whole host of other comb types. Pea combs are generally smaller than other comb types and on males there are three rows of 'peas'; little nodules that form the comb. On females there's usually just one row. On most breeds including those that have pea combs, you can tell the gender by how red it is at a young age. The three rows are just another thing to look for if you happen to have pea combed chickens.
