Which hatchery to use? Any of them still send a "free" chick for warmth?

I think if you cross a blue/green laying Americana and a dark brown egg layer, the resulting chick should lay olive colored eggs. I think this can be slightly varied depending on what gene the Americana passes on, but that is sort of what I gather…. You could start your own project since you can have a rooster now!!

I plan on hatching my blue/ slightly green EE eggs this spring, The chicks will be a cross between a Murray McMurray EE and a Black Copper Marans roo that I adopted from Craigslist. I am so hoping to get a olive green egg.

Odds are really good your free "rare" breed chick from MMM will be an Easter egger cockerel, so you'd be halfway to breeding your own olive eggers lol.

I've had really good luck with McMurray, they're my go to hatchery as a rule.

There is a price difference between Meyers and McM. Not much per bird, but when you add it up over, let's say, 25 chicks it could be a couple of bucks. Is either one lower on shipping costs? I know the quality of McM birds is pretty good, but Meyers looks cheaper?

Agreed, that I could breed my own olive egger, if I could get a good blue egg layer. But even when we ordered Easter Eggers 4 years ago we ended up with 1 pullet and 3 cocks and she layed a brown egg. Also, she died after one year, so did some of the other breeds we got. We have had good luck with D'uccles. They seem to last, but I really want those little blue or green eggs. I will be ordering at least on std Ameraucana to try for that blue or green egg. Then, I would need to find a FBCM as stud. I happen to know someone with a beautiful rooster that I can use.
