Which hen is not laying?

Hello
I have seven hens, two light sussex, three black rock, and two rhode rock.
I have had them for a few weeks and only got seven eggs twice.
How can i find out which hen is not laying, and how can i make her lay?

Hi, welcome to BYC!

Those are all dual purpose breeds and not meant to lay EVERY day.

Good nutrition not diminished by excess treats is the best thing you can do.

Do you know how old they are? What are you feeding?

The three black rocks are a year old, and the light sussex and rhode rock 9 months
I feed them normal pellets along with bird seed as a treat and other leftovers.

If you have gotten 7 eggs in a day and you have 7 hens, then everyone is laying. They won't all lay every day. This is normal. It takes a bit longer than 24 hours for a hen to produce and lay an egg, so that adds up to skipping days from time to time.

@aart can you link the butt check article? Checking pelvic points is a good way to determine if if chicken is an active layer or not. Hopefully we can get you a link to the how to article!

It's possible you have one chicken that is slacking when it comes to laying, or it's possible it's a different chicken every day that takes a rest. It can be hard to figure out.
