Hi! I will be hatching in early spring because I am now left with only 4 laying hens after a fox attack. I am aware that they will not lay for quite a while. R.I.P my girls :hit I had 10 laying chickens and I am left with 4 now. I am thinking about what breeds should I get in spring. I want something pretty but also something that lays eggs. No bantams, please! I will be getting some of those later. I am thinking that the max should be like 12 birds that's it. I am also going to a poultry show on Saturday. So maybe I will find something that I like and buy them. Thanks!
I like bantams a lot. U could get EE, NN, Polish, or Olive Egger.

Some of my favorite standard girls! :)

Hard to pick a favorite. For a friendly lap chicken I like my Red Phoenix's. 3 of my hens like to fly up and sit on my shoulder when in the yard.

Liege fighters are another of my favorites. They don't look it in pictures but they get big and also very talkative when spoken to. Big roo will carry a long winded conversation as long as you talk back to him. I question is he's really speaking in Morse code lol

Update: picture is red taking a nap on me lol

I love my Blue Australorps. There's something about an Australorp that just happens to perfectly match my mental concept of the word "chicken" -- the shape, the comb, the way they act, ....

I also adore Brahmas, but they're big eaters and not good layers so you have to love them for their looks. :D
